On April 12, 2025, the 15th edition of the International Robotic Tournament took place in Rybnik. It is the largest robot competition in this part of Europe.

Participants competed in 15 different categories, such as Sumo, LineFollower, RoboStrong, Freestyle, as well as in this year’s new challenges – LineFollower Turbo and Photon Challenge. The tournament brought together 448 competitors from 9 countries, who presented a total of 501 robots. Teams represented countries including Mexico, Italy, Romania, Turkey, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, and Ukraine.

Our university had a strong presence as well – the UBBRobotics team proudly took home the silver medal in the Sumo category! This is a major achievement, as Sumo is one of the most demanding and spectacular competitions – where autonomous robots face off in a ring, trying to push their opponents out of the arena.

As in previous years, the tournament was held under the patronage of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Bielsko-Biała, represented by Vice-Dean Jacek Rysiński.

As part of the university’s outreach, a dedicated booth was set up where visitors could speak with students from the “Engineer of the 21st Century” Student Research Group and learn more about the degree programs offered at UBB. The booth attracted great interest from participants and guests – especially young people considering their future studies.

A pleasant highlight of the event were also interviews given by our students to representatives of the press and television.
