On June 6, as part of the closing events of Sports Days, the representation of the University of Bielsko-Biala took part in the Silesian Academic Sailing Championships, held on Lake Żywieckie at the “Halny” Sailing Club.
Our university was represented by a single crew, which excluded us from the team classification. However, in the individual competition, the students performed very well. The crew consisted of Computer Science students Kamil Bloch and Paweł Naglik – members of the student research groups Engineer of the 21st Century and Reset – who decided to test their skills in regatta sailing. The skipper was Paweł Fałat, a staff member of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, who provided both theoretical and practical training, including a series of introductory regatta sessions.
Special support during the preparation phase was provided by the “Perkoz” Sailing Club, which offered access to the training equipment. Despite a short training period, our crew managed to compete on equal terms with more experienced teams.
The weather conditions were far from ideal – light wind and persistent rain required strong focus and mental resilience. Despite the cold, wet clothing, and challenging circumstances, the University of Bielsko-Biala crew performed very well, showing consistency and composure on the water. As a result, they secured an impressive second place in the individual classification.
Individual classification – Silesian Academic Sailing Championships:
Silesian University of Technology (Tomasz Procek, Jerzy Bieniek, Kamil Szubryt)
University of Bielsko-Biala (Paweł Fałat, Kamil Bloch, Paweł Naglik)
Medical University of Silesia (Alicja Kolman, Jan Bryłka, Zuzanna Socha)
Congratulations to our crew on this outstanding result – we wish them continued success in future competitions!
